Esteban Huertas faught for independence/freedom. Esteban was born in 1876 in Umbita, Boyacá, Colombia. He ran away from his home to join the army at the age of eight. By the time he was 14 he was a second-class sergeant and had received many badges for "bravery under fire". His left arm was lost while firing a cannon during the civil war in December 1900 and had to get a wooden prothesis.(Something that would replace his arm) In November 1902, at the age of 26, this young soldier was promoted to General, for his bravery. To support the Panamanian revolution, Huertas had to arrest Colombian Generals. He received a small amount of money for his participation in the revolution that freed Panama from Colombia. Esteban Huertas died in Panama in 1943.
