Panama's national animal is the Golden Frog. This frog is different from most other frogs because instead of croaking it communicates by a form of "semaphore". Even though this frog is the national animal, it is believed to have become extinct in 2006 either from a fungal infection called Chytridiomycosis that grows on their skin suffocating them or from pollution and loss of habitat.

The national bird of Panama is the Harpy Eagle. There are only 35 nests that have been found, and the people of Panama want to conserve these birds so they don't become extinct.
